Studio Color

I took these photos yesterday afternoon. Natural light really is the best light, isn't it? The framed piece is an intaglio print I did a couple years a ago titled Lady with a Lily. Happy weekend! I hope lots of natural light for you.

Tall Stories

"Tandem" (Oil, 2'x 4') will be displayed in the most recent exhibit at the Columbia Art League. The show is titled Tall Stories to pay homage to the True/False film festival going on this weekend. The reception is tomorrow, but my painting will be up until April 17th. So go see it!

ps. it's hard to see this, but there is actually an abstract city made of cut paper underneath all of that white paint. The idea is to play down the color and saturation of hue to showcase subtle texture.

Paisley Daisley Quilt

In an earlier post I photographed this quilt in progress. Here is the finished result. The paisley and daisy quilting turned out quite nicely I think.

A Couple Good Years

Nothing like a gray February day to make you a bit nostalgic. When I sat down at my computer it was light outside. I'm suddenly realizing it is dark in my room and I am intensely staring at the burning lamp that is now my computer screen. What have I done these past couple years? Graduated from college. Moved to Chicago. Saw my first snowy beach. Moved out of Chicago. Made some new friends. Saw some old ones...what's next for me? sigh....who knows...maybe I should turn on a light.

Students Kick'n Butt

My students are blowing me away with their art skills. Here is a small sample from my 9th grade class. These illustrations are so great I will have to post more once I get them photographed. The assignment was to illustrate a fellow classmate using watercolor and ink. Pretty baller, right?

Sampler Quilt

This quilt was originally designed as a tribute to the 350,000 women who served in the armed forces during WWII. Although these block patterns were designed after 1950, I still thought it would be quite lovely to use Civil War reproduction prints for the majority of the fabric.

Shoes #3

Just can't paint enough of these...but I'm running out of shoes (kind of). So if you have an EXCEPTIONALLY gorgeous pair, be a peach and let me borrow them for a few hours. oui? I will even give you a print of the painting. AND I might even subtly mention you in my highly trafficked blog ;) (Rachel, you should probably make a trip to see me.)

Love INC website re-design

Which one should it be? I have been commissioned to re-deign the Columbia, MO Love INC website. The main focus of this site is to be user-friendly, fresh, informative and inviting. I'm working with a programmer on this project, so hopefully we will have a finished site in a month or two.

Happy Early Friday!

Party!!!! (I really didn't need to start this paragraph with that, but today's Daily Drop cap was too pretty to P-P-P-Pass up) Is my third week teaching too early to throw a party for the kids? ehhh....o well. I enjoy baking (and secretly them) too much to stop myself. Adieu, week three. I'm ready for week four...

Josh Kezer - Actually Innocent

After years of sitting in prison and being called a murderer and a liar, Josh Kezer's case was reopened and injustice was brought to light. His second degree murder charge was dropped and he was declared "Actually Innocent" and released. February 18th 2010 marks his one year anniversary of being a free man. To celebrate, friends, family and pretty much anyone who is intrigued by his story are invited to a party at Christian Fellowship Church on February 20th.

This is the flyer I designed for Josh to pass out for this exciting event.

Old Timey

If times were ever simpler, when were those times? Maybe these two characters could tell us. Maybe not.

This sketch was done in graphite with a hint of watercolor.
